Update: Now Open Again - Debrecen Airport Closed Down Due to Heat Damage
Debrecen Airport has been closed, the airport operator announced on social media, after a runway inspection showed defects caused by heat on its runway on Thursday.

Eliminating the problem will take at least a week depending on weather conditions, the airport added. All flights were cancelled.

Some of the flights originally departing from Debrecen will be handled by Budapest Airport, the airport manager said on Friday.

Passengers will be informed by their airlines about the necessary steps and whether their flight will depart from Budapest or be cancelled.

Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport handles some 55,000 passengers per day in summer and will take on another three or four daily flights redirected from Debrecen.
