Star Sound – Promenade Concert, House Of Music In Budapest, 20 December
Karlheinz Stockhausen's "park music" Sternklang was reimagined by the MIKAMO Central European Chamber Orchestra for the Hungarian Music House.

During the enrichment experience inspired by the changing constellations, music and images fill the entire house, and "sound messengers" and "torch bearers" (dancers) carry the sounds.

The stargazing audience can choose how to inhabit this multidimensional experience space, from walking between the ensembles to watching and listening from the chairs.

At night in a park, far from each other, five groups of musicians play under the open sky, and the source of their playing is the different positions of the stars - this is the idea of the German composer Karlheinz Stockhausen for his work Sternklang, written in 1971.

This concept was reimagined for the Hungarian House of Music by MIKAMO Central European Chamber Orchestra for the Hungarian premiere. Visually displayed constellations such as the Big Dipper, the Lion, Aquarius or Virgo determine the composition: reading the stars as musical scores, the composer wrote rhythms, timbres and melodies from them, which influence the musicians' playing together and their relationship with each other.

Between the ensembles, "sound couriers" and "torch bearers" (dancers) bring and carry the sounds. The result is similar to a journey in a fairy-tale sound world, where the boundaries between the performer, the audience and the environment are blurred and transcend the concept of a traditional concert space.

During the nearly three-hour experience, which engages all the senses, the stargazing audience can freely choose how to inhabit this multidimensional experience space, from walking between the ensembles to watching from the seats.

Concert starts at 7 pm

On display until 19 August. The respective documentary photos of Wanda Martin (b. 1991) and Gábor Martin (b. 1953) are separated by more than forty years and some two thousand kilometres. Yet the social phenomenon they sensitively portray is almost the same, if the subcultural milieu in question is fairly closely defined.
