Birthrate Falls to New Record Low in Hungary
A record low total of 77,500 babies were born in Hungary in 2024, 7,725 fewer than in the previous year, the Central Statistics Office reported.

The number is the lowest since the statistics office began registering the number of births every year in 1949.

There were 127,500 deaths recorded last year, 676 fewer than in 2023.

As a result of the balance of births and deaths, the natural decline was 50,000, some 16% higher than the 42,951 figure in 2023.

The Hungarian population at the end of 2024 is estimated at 9,540,000.
