In Hungary, an estimated 3 million dogs are cherished as true family members. Most owners prefer not to leave their furry companions behind when traveling, taking them along to accommodations, restaurants, cafés, or shops.

For over a decade, Kutyabarathelyek.hu has worked to increase the number of dog-friendly service providers. Their certification highlights these locations, ensuring they are the top choice for dog owners. Naturally, beaches and bathing spots—popular destinations during scorching summer days—are no exception.

21 Certified Dog-Friendly Bathing Spots

Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Kutyabarathelyek.hu over the past 10 years, more and more waterfront locations are welcoming dogs. Since 2015, their team has been informing owners about dog-friendly beaches in Hungary.

Back then, there were only 8 such spots, but this year, 21 dog-friendly beaches and bathing areas await pets eager to splash and cool off across the country! This reflects the growing demand for dog-friendly locations, which is expected to rise further as dog ownership continues to gain popularity.

Dog-friendly facilities also boost local tourism, attracting not only dog owners but entire families—millions of people in total. So, what makes a bathing spot officially dog-friendly?

“It must be sufficiently distanced from human-only beaches, provide proper waste management, and, if needed, include ramps for water access,” says Krisztián Máté, co-founder of Kutyabarathelyek.hu.

Many locations go above and beyond, offering dog toys, shared sports equipment, umbrellas, sunbeds, dog-related activities and programs, agility courses, and even dog-friendly snack bars.



Here’s the 2025 list: 

1. Fonyód Dog-Friendly Bathing Spot

The first dog-friendly beach on Lake Balaton, located next to Fonyód Harbor and the Water Police, offers a spacious, well-maintained area. Trash bins and waste bags are available, and ramps alongside traditional stairs help dogs access the water. The area is fenced for safe play, and you can even try stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) with your dog! Parking is available for up to 25 cars at the entrance, and the snack bar serves authentic Balaton dishes.  

2. Balatonföldvár Dog-Friendly Bathing Spot

Following the first dog-friendly beach, Balatonföldvár has opened its shores to dogs. Spanning nearly 2,500 square meters, dogs can splash in the water or run on the grass. The water deepens quickly in most areas, but a shallow, reedy section is perfect for ball games. A ramp aids timid dogs in entering the water. Parking is available along the roadside closer to the lake. 

3. Kőszeg Dog Beach

Vas County’s first dog beach, opened in 2019, features shallow water, dog toys, shade, and a secure fence. Only dogs are allowed to swim in this 2,700-square-meter area, ensuring carefree play. Entry is free. 

4. Dunakeszi, Danube Bank

A dedicated, fenced-off section of the Dunakeszi free beach welcomes dogs. The pebbly shore and gradually deepening water are ideal for dogs and owners. A snack bar is nearby, and parking is available at Liget Street (30 spaces), Katonadomb Park (84 spaces, 200 meters away), or Kiserdő Street (122 spaces, 400 meters away). 

5. Délegyháza Lakes – Tavirózsa Camping

Near Budapest, Tavirózsa Camping is highly dog-friendly, allowing dogs to swim at its beach. Guests can enroll their pets in dog training sessions. The beach is free for campsite guests, and a snack bar serves freshly cooked meals. Parking is available at the entrance. A dog-friendly family day is planned for August.

6. Borostyán Lake, Zalalövő
Borostyán Lake welcomes dogs again, with ongoing improvements like dog toys and shaded seating areas for owners. Camping and cabin rentals are available, and active owners can enjoy beach volleyball, soccer, or exercise. A snack bar is on-site, and parking is available by the lake. 

7. Vizsla Lake

Located near Nyíregyháza, this scenic lakeside venue is perfect for dog events or private rentals. The 1,000-square-meter fenced area includes an agility course. For 2025, dog towels will be available! Parking is free.

8. Pécs – Hirdi Dog Beach
Near Pécs, this former fishing lake is now a fully fenced dog beach with shallow, gradually deepening water. Shaded seating is available every 20-25 meters, and waste bags are provided. A playground is available for kids.

9. Öreg Lake, Tata

In the beautiful surroundings of Tata’s Öreg Lake, designated areas allow dogs to swim, marked by signs. Bathing is free, and the area offers excellent opportunities for outdoor activities.

10. Zalaegerszeg – Gébárti Lake

Accessible from the adventure pool, this dog beach is exclusively for dogs. Dogs must be leashed outside the water, as indicated by signs. A synthetic turf ramp aids water access, and the shaded shore is perfect for owners and dogs.

11. Tiszafüred – Mancsos Pancsoló

Eastern Hungary’s first dog-friendly bathing spot offers a 150-meter fenced shoreline for dogs and owners to splash in shallow water. A nearby snack bar, tables, benches, trash bins, and a water pump ensure comfort. Entry is free.  

13. Keszthely Dog Beach

The third dog-friendly spot on Lake Balaton, this Keszthely beach includes a park, picnic garden, and agility course. Events are regularly held, and amenities include restrooms, changing rooms, and a snack bar. A gated entry system prevents dogs from escaping, and parking is free.

14. Ebadta Selypi Pancsolda

This will be the final season for this fenced, green dog-friendly area. The gradually deepening water is ideal for water-loving dogs. Open weekends only, it’s available for visits or private rentals.  

15. Vadna Park

This fishing lake in Vadna, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, has a dedicated dog-friendly section. A snack bar and nearby dog-friendly accommodation are available. Parking is at the entrance, and dog-friendly events are regularly held.

16. EBpart
Located at Tisza Lake’s Kalandpart, EBpart - home to two vizsla mascots - was named the 2024 Dog-Friendly Business of the Year. The fenced sandy beach offers trash bins, sunbeds, shaded areas, and kennels. Dog-friendly snack bars, bike trailers, and electric trikes for dogs are available.

17. Jade Beach
An exclusive beach in Dunavarsány’s green area, Jade Beach offers relaxation and 10 water sports. Small and medium-sized dogs are welcome in designated areas only. Event hosting is available. 

18. Fundy Lake
This Gyál quarry lake is exclusively for dogs (owners cannot swim). SUP rentals are available for shared fun. A snack bar and restrooms are on-site, and a free open day is held before the season starts. 

19. Szolnok Beach

Szolnok’s free beach has a dog-friendly waterfront, but it’s not fenced, so dogs must be recall-trained. The sandy shore has limited shade, so bring an umbrella.

20. Tiszakécske Dog-Friendly Bathing Spot

A small, fenced dog-friendly area at the end of Tiszakécske’s free beach is ideal for a quick dip due to strong waves. 

21. Bárka Dog Beach

Located on the Tisza River in Mindszent, this dog beach offers benches, large shady trees, and unlimited waste bags. Dogs are restricted to designated routes and cannot enter the non-dog-friendly beach areas. Snack bars are available on the main beach. 



Alternative Options

Natural waters are also available for dog bathing, provided the shoreline is suitable.

In areas of natural waters where there are no designated swimming beaches, no prohibitive signs, and the area is not fenced off as private property, there are no restrictions on bathing dogs. A prime example is Kisoroszi Szigetcsúcs, a gem of the Danube Bend.

Dog Swimming Pools

The popularity of dog swimming is on the rise. Dog swimming pools are primarily used for regular training sessions and group activities. However, owners also have the option to visit for a single session and rent the pool to swim with their dog.

Benefits of Dog Swimming:

Swimming is a low-impact, joint-friendly exercise for overweight dogs.
It provides excellent mental and physical stimulation.
It’s an effective way to build fitness and muscle strength.

1. Kerektói Dog Center and Swimming

Location: 1172 Budapest, Kerektói utca 32.

In addition to swimming, the center offers boarding services for small groups. Swimming can be done with the help of a trainer or by renting the pool.

2. Vízikutya Dog Swimming & Wellness

Location: 1171 Budapest, Lajosház utca 32.

This indoor, heated pool allows dogs to experience the benefits of swimming. Dogs can enter via a ramp, or braver ones can jump in. The pool can be rented for half a day for extended splashing, with custom pricing. Dog life jackets, towels, and shampoo are available upon request. Free parking is offered in the garden or on the street in front of the house. 

3. Dogmopolite Dog Swimming Pools

Locations: Szigetszentmiklós, Gyári út 47; Debrecen, Kelence utca 90.

Dogmopolite offers various services for owners, including dog and cat boarding, grooming, training, physiotherapy, and more. Their swimming facilities include fully equipped changing rooms with showers and professional dog-drying services.

4. Kutyauszi

Location: 2163 Vácrátót, Kinizsi út 41.

A heated pool welcomes dogs year-round. Your pet can participate in therapeutic sessions, exercise training, or hydrotherapy. The outdoor bathing lake allows dog-owner pairs to swim together, with toys and life jackets provided. Owners train their dogs independently, and the deep water is suitable only for dogs that can swim. 

5. Akela Dog Swimming Pool

Location: 2142 Nagytarcsa, Rákóczi utca 49.

A heated pool, towels, and a drying machine await four-legged visitors. Beyond swimming, the Akela Dog Center offers dog training, activities, physiotherapy, massage, sports sessions, and daycare. More info here! (link)
