According to organisers, the event – referred to as an “anti-Pride” protest – is intended to promote what they call “normality and morality” in contrast to what they describe as a “culture of debauchery,” as reported by Napi Téma.

The groups also say they are voicing resistance to what they term the European Union’s “globalist values,” which they claim support the spread of “gay propaganda and gender ideology.”

CitizenGO has previously staged similar actions, including a protest outside CEU during a rainbow-themed conference last year. This year, the organisation submitted a five-point proposal to the government, which includes calls to ban LGBTQ organisations and Pride events altogether.

Supporters of the upcoming protest believe their message is increasingly relevant, arguing that the EU has gone too far in treating LGBTQ rights as core values, leaving member states like Hungary struggling to push back.

Although the Hungarian government has passed legislation that could enable authorities to ban Pride events, organisers claim that police have yet to make a legally sound decision that would hold up in Hungary’s Supreme Court.

CitizenGO has expressed concern that if Budapest Pride goes ahead as planned, it would represent what they call a “moral stain” on both Hungary and Europe, warning it could signal the start of a so-called “transhumanist era.”

Organisers also believe this year’s Pride may attract foreign political figures—particularly from Western Europe — who they say aim to show international support for LGBTQ rights.

The CitizenGO-led protest is scheduled for Saturday, 28 June 2025, at 10:30 a.m., near the statue of former Prime Minister Gyula Andrássy in Kossuth Square.

Organisers are inviting participants who wish to stand for “Christian morality” and “the sanctity of the family.”
