'Retro Day' at Memento Park Budapest on 5 October
Retro cars, vinyl records, a garage sale and a flashlight walk await visitors on Sunday at this open-air museum dedicated to the statues and monuments of Hungary's communist era.

Organisers emphasised that the event simultaneously offers entertainment, cultural reflection, and a community experience that playfully shows how the objects, music, and stories of bygone eras influence our present.

Visitors can choose among the treasures of the "KGST Market", participate in competitions, encounter the world of Trabants and Wartburgs, and listen to songs playing on vinyl records to reminisce about the recent past.

In the evening, special screenings and performances will introduce them to everyday life in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, and at the end of the day, they can view the park's monumental sculptures by flashlight.

The event will start at 10 a.m. with a retro garage sale. On Tanú Square in front of the sculpture park, anyone can get rid of their boring items or find treasures, be it an original Bambi glass or an " Excellent Worker " award.

There will also be a contest titled "Who knows more about grandma's childhood?", a " socialist car meeting ", a wish list show, and from 3 p.m., behind-the-scenes film secrets, hidden stories and the life paths of the statues will be revealed to the participants of the unusual guided tour titled "Ostápenko Takes a Step".

Early in the evening, a quiz and tasting will evoke the legendary products of the 22nd district, which is also home to Memento Park.

At 6 p.m., the screening of 'I Am Skála Kópé' will begin, which presents strange commercials of the 'scarcity economy'.

This will be followed by a presentation entitled The 'Sexual Revolution', from 8 p.m., the day will end with a flashlight walk titled Lenin's Lamps.

Located on the outskirts of the city, the park features over 40 statues of communist leaders like Lenin, Marx, and Stalin, as well as symbols of the labor movement, offering visitors a unique journey into a history that once dominated the city's public spaces.
