5 Billion & Counting: MÁV Group Sees Record Passenger Growth in Hungary
Thanks to the new tariff system based on county and national passes, more and more people are traveling with MAV Group, Zsolt Hegyi, the CEO of the state-owned transportation company said.

Hegyi said that based on time-proportional data the number of passenger trips managed by the company this year is expected to exceed 1 billion.

He noted that the vast majority of passengers travel with passes, not tickets, which makes it difficult to assess exact passenger numbers.

Hegyi said previously a pass was counted as 52 trips, but now only 26 trips are counted for a student national pass, and only 30 for a full-price adult national pass.

He said that nearly 1m passes are sold every month and currently one-third of these are national passes.
