Immersive Sound Dome Festival Brought Back by House of Music in Budapest
The Hungarian House of Music is bringing back its immersive Sound Dome Festival this winter, offering a week of live music, concert films, special screenings and audience discussions inside one of Budapest’s most distinctive cultural venues.

The festival, known as Dome_Reload, will run from 3–8 February 2026 at the House of Music in City Park.

It follows the success of last year’s inaugural edition and focuses on the venue’s unique 360-degree cinema and multi-channel sound system.

According to the organisers, the early-year festival has become a new tradition celebrating the Hangdóm (Sound Dome) — a purpose-built immersive space combining a full dome screen with a 40-channel sound system designed for experimental audiovisual projects.

New films, live music and returning favourites

This year’s programme includes several new elements alongside audience favourites from previous seasons.

Visitors can expect:

* Re-screenings of the most popular Sound Dome films, followed by audience Q&A sessions with their creators
* Two brand-new Dome_Live productions created specifically for immersive dome venues
* The launch of a new live concert series inside the Sound Dome
* The first screening of a 360-degree concert film featuring Vad Fruttik and Makrohang Zene

Among the new premieres is Partita for 8 Voices, an immersive interpretation of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw’s work, with visuals inspired by minimalist artist Sol LeWitt’s famous Wall Drawings.

Another highlight is Continuum, an emotionally rich audiovisual journey that uses the dome format to transport audiences into the vastness and beauty of outer space.

Live performance meets immersive cinema

A new series titled Dome_Replay will also debut at this year’s festival. Its first event will feature the international ensemble Meybahar, whose music draws on Greek and Asia Minor traditions. The group will perform live alongside one of the Sound Dome’s most popular films, Dome_016 Csontváry: Levante.

Throughout the week, themed screening days will focus on animated short films and works inspired by the visual arts, with opportunities for audiences to meet and question the filmmakers and creators.

The full Dome_Reload festival programme is available on the House of Music website.

For expats living in Budapest, the Sound Dome offers a rare chance to experience concerts and films in a fully immersive setting that blends music, visual art and digital technology in a striking architectural space.
