Sameday Courier Exits Hungary: Over 1,000 Easybox Lockers to Be Dismantled
The logistics landscape in Hungary is set for a noticeable shake-up as the Sameday courier service and its ubiquitous Easybox parcel locker network prepare to vanish entirely from the local market by early autumn.

The Romanian-owned Sameday Group, a subsidiary of the eMAG e-commerce group, has confirmed it will wind down its local operating arm, Delivery Solutions Zrt., concluding its operations in the country.

The decision marks the end of a process that began with an intended corporate handoff. Earlier this spring, eMAG announced a deal to sell its Hungarian logistics division to Express One, a prominent local operator owned by Austrian Post.

While the transaction successfully cleared scrutiny from Hungary's competition authority, it ultimately hit an insurmountable roadblock at the governmental level.

The acquisition was blocked under Hungary’s strict screening regulations regarding foreign direct investment (FDI).

Faced with the prospect of an indefinite wait for regulatory or legal clarity, Sameday chose to abandon the sale entirely and initiate a full market exit.

The withdrawal will directly impact online shoppers and the wider retail sector, as Sameday has opted not to sell its hardware or infrastructure to another domestic competitor. Instead, the company plans to dismantle and remove its entire network of more than one thousand automated Easybox lockers, moving the physical units back to Romania.

According to market reports and company statements, the closure of local operations and the associated workforce layoffs will follow a structured, gradual timeline to ensure compliance with Hungarian labor laws.

The company has committed to providing its local staff with transitional support packages that exceed the legally required statutory minimums.

The entire wrap-up process is scheduled to conclude by the beginning of September, bringing a definitive end to Sameday's presence in Hungary.
