Xpat Interview: Alan Orozco
I am a Peruvian citizen currently working as a Service Bid manager for a major ICT multinational company known as British Telecom. Also I am a resident disc jockey in Moulin Rouge Budapest during the winter seasons, and Café Puerto in summer.

1. When did you arrive in Hungary and what brought you here?
March 1997. I was encouraged by my brother, who at the time was working here as a Consul, in the Embassy of Peru in Hungary. The main purpose of my visit was to study, for which I attended the BABS course at International Business School.

2. Have you ever been an expatriate elsewhere?
Not really. Hungary is my first experience

3. What surprised you most about Hungary?
Budapest, Sopron, Szeged, Pécs are some of my favorite cities. One can never get in Hungary as it is full of programs! The Hungarian language is a challenge and after 12 years I still cannot say I speak perfectly!

4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?
The Buda Castle and its surrounding areas, the Heroes' square, the Citadel, The Széchenyi Thermal Baths and Gellért, Margaret island, the Parlament, walk the Andrássy street

5. What is your favourite Hungarian food?
The fish soup "Halászlé"

6. What is never missing from your refrigerator?
The Hungarian "Er?s Pista" (I love spicy food)

7. What is your favourite Hungarian word?
Hogy ityeg a fityeg? (what's up with you)

8. What do you miss the most from home?
The fresh sea food and the taste of Mom's home cooking

9. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?
Maybe I would do a bit more of event promoting

10. What's a job you would definitely never want?
Any work that implies be sitting all day long and pick up the phone!

11. Where did you spend your last vacation?
In Lake Balaton

12. Where do you hope to spend your next one?
In Peru at some beach/summer resource

13. What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?
Band: Nirvana,
Film: Meet the parents
Hobby: DJ, CD collection

14. What can't you resist?
Eating spicy food

15. Red wine or white?
Red

16. Book or movie?
I prefer movies

17. Morning person or night person?
Mornings during the weekdays and nights during the weekends

18. Which social issue do you feel most strongly about?
Poverty and social inequalities!

19. Buda side or Pest side?
Buda but not the hills. Anything close to Margaret Island is okay, as I do enjoy jogging there in summer time

20. What would you say is your personal motto?
The beginning of every good thing is always difficult
