Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and mayor István Tarlós on Friday signed a wide-ranging agreement under the title Budapest 21. Orbán said a heroic struggle has been going on at City Hall since 2010 to ensure that the capital continue to function, but now “the nation’s capital will be free of heavy burdens” as the government has assumed 60% of the city’s debts, or Ft 104 billion.

Újpest football supporters attacked police officers in the Fourth District Sunday afternoon ahead of a match against arch-rivals Ferencváros (FTC). The trouble began when police detained a man for using an illegal firecracker.
EU Development Projects Presented To The Public At Open Day In Hungary

Nearly 30 EU-funded projects were presented nationwide during the open day organised by the National Development Agency (NFÜ). At the Liszt Academy of Music, Deputy State Secretary responsible for development programs Nándor Csepreghy said that the aim of the open day is to introduce the EU projects included in the New Széchenyi Plan that positively affect people's everyday lives to the public.

Fourth Metro Line In Budapest Structurally Ready

The fourth metro line is more or less structurally ready and only minor works are under way, mayor István Tarlós said on Wednesday as he opened an underground garage on Rákóczi tér in the Eighth District. He said the expected overall cost of the first section of the metro project will be Ft 452 billion, rather than the anticipated Ft 373 billion.

On Tuesday this week Budapest Mayor Tarlós announced that motorists will have to pay to enter Budapest by 2015. Speaking on Hungarian HírTV he justified the action by blaming the Socialists, claiming they signed an undertaking to this effect when negotiating EU subsidies for the forthcoming M4 metro line - which is due for completion in 2014 at earliest.
