The European Investment Bank (EIB) is lending EUR 40 million to Hungary’s Railway Company GySEV (Gyor-Sopron-Ebenfurti Vasut Zrt) to finance the purchase of new rolling stock and introduce safety improvements. Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó met Wang Xiaotao, deputy director of China’s National Development and Reform Commission, to discuss issues around the Budapest-Belgrade railway refurbishment project, in Budapest. Parties at the talks agreed that the legal framework for the scheme would be “fully in line with European regulations”, the foreign ministry said.

Budapest mayor István Tarlós has announced plans to renovate the city’s iconic Chain Bridge and remodel Blaha Lujza Square in central Budapest. Speaking at an AmCham event, Tarlós said the Buda Castle tunnel was also a contender for renovation and plans are to revamp the Cog-Wheel railway, extending it to Széll Kálmán Square in one direction and all the way to Normafa Hill in the other.

Speaking at the “Cars of the Future” conference at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Orbán called the test track a major investment, “the like of which cannot be found” within 500 kilometres of Hungary.
