International fashion retailer Primark earlier announced that it will open its first Hungarian store in Arena Mall, Budapest .

Statement from Aréna Plaza:

Primark will open at 10.00am on Tuesday 28th May in Budapest's Arena Mall.

Hungary will become Primark’s 17th market globally, marking a significant milestone in the retailer’s expansion into Central and Eastern Europe.

About Primark

Primark is an international fashion retailer employing more than 80,000 colleagues across 16 countries in Europe and the US.

Founded in Ireland in 1969 under the Penneys brand, Primark aims to provide affordable choices for everyone, from great quality everyday essentials to stand-out style across women’s, men’s and kids, as well as beauty, homeware and accessories.

With a focus on creating great retail experiences, Primark has over 400 stores globally and continues to expand across new and existing markets with the aim of reaching 530 stores by the end of 2026, including the upcoming new market of Hungary.

Primark is working to make more sustainable fashion affordable for everyone through its Primark Cares strategy, a multi-year programme that focuses on giving clothing a longer life; protecting life on the planet and supporting the livelihoods of the people who make Primark clothes.

As part of this, Primark unveiled nine commitments it is working to achieve by 2030. These commitments include making all of its clothes from recycled or more sustainably sourced materials by 2030, halving carbon emissions across its value chain and pursuing a living wage for workers in its supply chain.

The company notes that expansion into Hungary demonstrates Primark's continued commitment to the Central and Eastern European region, having successfully opened stores in Slovenia, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Romania.

Primark currently operates 416 stores in 15 countries across continental Europe and the United States.

According to a press release sent earlier, the new store in Budapest will offer customers a unique, affordable range of the latest fashion trends and everyday essentials that Primark is known for.

The store will offer a range of licensed products, including NBA and Disney branded merchandise, as well as Primark's growing Primark Cares sub-brand, which is part of the chain's commitment to making more sustainable fashion more affordable for everyone.

Maciej Podwojski, head of sales for Primark in Central and Eastern Europe, said, "Arena Mall offers the perfect location for shoppers in Hungary to experience Primark's unique store concept, affordable, stunning fashion, and essentials".

"The reception to our store openings in the Central and Eastern European region has been excellent and we are confident that our Hungarian customers will love our range."

Erna Balla, head of operations in Hungary at NEPI Rockcastle (owner of Arena Mall) added, "We are very much looking forward to welcoming Primark to Arena Mall and are delighted that they have chosen us to launch their new store. Primark will be an attractive part of Arena's fashion offering."
