Insurance for E-Scooters Soon to be Mandatory in Hungary
Mandatory liability insurance will be required for certain micro-mobility devices such as electric scooters and Segways from July 16, due to the increasing number of accidents.

It will still not be mandatory for electric bicycles, but insurance must be taken out for vehicles with a maximum design speed of more than 25 km/h, or a maximum curb weight of more than 25kg and a maximum design speed of 14 km/h.

Some insurance companies have already published the new fees, which typically range from Ft 5,000-Ft 25,000 per year, depending on the age and residence of the owners.

However, the government decree regulating the details has not yet been published, so rates are blindly applied, and some insurers prefer to wait for the decree.

The mandatory liability insurance will cover personal injuries caused by micro-mobility devices.
