From September 25 – October 3, 2014, the EYEFUL Festival is back for the third time, sponsored jointly by the Embassy of Switzerland, the Austrian Cultural Forum, and the Goethe Institute. They are bringing to Budapest’s Művész Cinema the best of new films from German-speaking lands, including a number of prizewinners.

One in three Hungarians (3.3 million) are now living in poverty while the average citizen has just HUF 522 (USD 2.19) per day for food and that amount is falling, according to a recent Eurostat report. This means that the average Hungarian must make ends meet with less than HUF 65,000 (USD 272) per month.

Judgment in Hungary, a documentary about the trial of the serial murderers of Roma in Hungary from 2008-09, has received two awards at the Sarajevo film festival, writes vs.hu. Besides the award granted by the festival’s jury (chaired this year by the retired Hungarian director Béla Tarr) the film also received the Human Rights Award.
