The Hungarian researchers who have been working on excavations in Egypt for several generations have gained recognition for Hungarian archeology as a whole, President János Áder told journalists on Saturday, visiting the location of the excavation of the Theban Necropolis.

Budapest Council Approves Twinning With Szekler City

The municipal assembly has approved a twinning agreement proposal between Budapest and Odorheiu Secuiesc (Székelyudvarhely), a city in Romania’s Szekler Land. According to the draft, twinning between the two cities is symbolic, creating a link between the “capital of the nation” and the “Szekler capital”.

The Budapest city council will in the future continue to support the Budapest Festival Orchestra to the extent that its budget permits, Budapest Mayor István Tarlós said. Last month, the Municipal Assembly voted to cut funding for the orchestra by 200 million forints (EUR 940,000) to 60 million.

The Budapest general assembly voted to cut funding for the internationally celebrated Budapest Festival Orchestra from last year’s 260 million forints (EUR 840,000) to 60 million forints. Budapest Deputy Mayor Alexandra Szalay- Bobrovniczky said in the debate on the orchestra’s funding that it receives a significant amount of state support alongside the money it gets from the city.
