Demonstrators argue that construction of such a dam would fundamentally change the nature of what they call the last natural beach in Budapest, which is a popular recreation area for the city’s residents.

Due to the prolonged works, the neighbourhood lost plenty of its liveability, the market hall became abandoned and square was only used for bypassing.

The bridge connecting South Buda and South Pest was originally called Horthy Miklós Bridge, but it was renamed to Petőfi Bridge after WWII. The construction of the bridge was necessary due to the dynamic development of Budapest.
