The European Union must speed up enlargement in order to overcome its problems, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said after talks with Albanian EU integration minister Klajda Gjosha. Hungary’s trade unions are “satisfied” with the wage deal reached with the government. National Federation of Workers’ Councils (MOSZ) head Imre Palkovics told public television that it was many years since employee representatives had achieved as great a success as the current deal.

Wages for unskilled workers will be raised by 15% and for skilled workers by 25% in 2017, according to Hungary's economy minister, Mihály Varga. He said that in 2018 the minimum wages will be increased by a further 8% and 12%, respectively.

The list of banned psychoactive drugs has been expanded with a 13 new items. Electronic cigarettes were grouped under ordinary cigarette regulations. As a result only licensed tobacco shops, the so-called kiosks, may sell them in the future. The law on air traffic was also modified authorising the police to levy fines for the illegal use of drones.
