Regulations on Public Transport as 'Fundamental Right' Enter Force
- 16 Dec 2025 7:34 AM
Speaking to journalists at a bus stop in Rabapaty, a village in the northwest of the country, Construction and Transportation Minister Janos Lazar said the government decisions and legislation approved by parliament served to make public transportation a "fundamental right" for all Hungarians.
He added that the regulations impacted 660,000 residents of 966 settlements.
Until the regulations entered force, there was no bus service in about half of those settlements and limited service, under three departures daily, in the other half, he said.
He put the cost of the measures at HUF 6bn.
Lazar said a decision had also be taken ensuring twice daily service between the country's county seats and the capital.
