The number of guest nights at commercial accommodations in Hungary jumped an annual 16.4 percent to 1,787,000 in November 2016, data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) on Monday show. Guest nights spent by Hungarian tourists were up by 16.3 percent at 887,000. KSH said the increase was due to a long weekend in November.

Hungarians travelled and spent more abroad this summer, the business daily Világgazdaság said on Thursday, citing Central Statistical Office figures. In the third quarter of the year, Hungarians paid 5.5 million trips abroad, 7.7 percent more than in the same period of 2015.

A top tourism official has issued reassurances that Hungary remains safe and that local authorities can guarantee the security of all tourists who arrive in the country. Deputy state secretary for tourism Ádám Ruszinkó told reporters in front of Saint Stephen’s Basilica, in the city centre, that Budapest’s tourist attractions are far from areas affected by the refugee crisis.
