A leading left wing commentator does not dismiss the story that former Prime Minister Gyurcsány’s 2006 “lie speech” was leaked by three leading MSZP politicians, but thinks that regardless of who it was, the speech itself has left an unhealing wound on Hungary’s left wing. A right-wing columnist suggests the story is untrue and the tip-off must have come from Mr Gyurcsány.

The two Hungarian mountaineers who died near the summit of Kangchenjunga in the Himalayas on Tuesday were among several who did not want to pay for the work of sherpas but used their ropes, a Spanish climber who decided to stop short of the peak said yesterday.

The historic Water Tower is a spectacular attraction of the Margaret Island, rising above the crowns of the massive trees in the court of the Open-air Theatre. Open from June until the end of September, daily: 11am–10pm. On performance days, between 7pm–11pm only the audience of the theatre may visit the Water Tower, with presenting a valid ticket.

Hungarian boxing coach died after adding lily of the valley to his omelette. The boxing trainer from Fehérvár mixed some wild garlic leaves (medvehagyma in Hungarian) that he picked himself into his omelette, accidentally adding lily of the valley to it. The fifty-year-old man complained of stomach ache on Saturday, and was found dead by his son on Sunday.

An international conference was organised in Budapest on the use of opioid medicines for curative purposes. The aim of the ATOME (Access to Opioid Medication in Europe) Project is to improve access by patients to opioid medication in those 12 countries of Central and Eastern Europe, where the per capita consumption of morphine is very low, as shown by statistical evidence.
