Budapest Dance Festival, 22-29 April 2014
- 24 Apr 2014 10:35 AM
Stars of the show this year include Doug Varone and Dancers, and the Yvette Bozsik Company.
Tue 22 April / Wed 23 April - Festival Theatre - East Shadow - 7 - 8 p.m.
Jiří Kylián dedicated his latest work to the victims of the tsunami in 2011, releasing the following statement: "The basic concept of East Shadow (as a tragicomedy) is inspired by Samuel Beckett and his absurd theatre. But in equal measure, by our eternal attempts to live together with somebody, or just even with ourselves... and the difficulty (or impossibility) of it all. The play of life and death (film and live performance) all results in the most wonderful realisation of all: Everything we do is total nonsense.
But this simple fact gives us enormous power to demonstrate this "nonsense" with the most furious conviction. Put together, it should be a "tragicomic" experience. We are still alive, and we want to experience it and let everyone know - no matter how pointless it all is - or maybe for precisely that reason!"
