Confidence in Hungary has returned, Prime Minister Viktor Orban declared yesterday after the European Commission decided against suspending cohesion fund payments to Hungary. Speaking on the “Az Este” TV programme, he hailed the outcome as a great success for Hungary, as the April decision on suspending funds was “unfair”.

Acclaimed director Béla Tarr is closing his production house T.T. Filmműhely from the end of May, he and business partner Gábor Téni announced in a statement on Thursday. They said that despite all their efforts they are obliged to realise that their position has become untenable.

Hungarian mathematician Endre Szemerédi received the Abel Prize, the highest distinction that a mathematician may receive, from Norwegian King Harald V in Oslo on Tuesday. Harald called Szemerédi a “prince” of present-day mathematics. The prize comes with a cash award of six million Norwegian kroner (Ft 238 million).
Qatar Airways Has Extended Its Middle East Footprint To Iraq

The Doha-based airline is operating four-flights-a-week non-stop on the route – the first of two new Iraqi services being launched within two weeks. Effective June 7, Qatar Airways will start flights to the capital Baghdad, also operating four-times-a-week.
