Will Airbnb be Banned in Budapest’s Castle District after Major Shake-Up?

Csilla Fazekas said consultations on the subject with the mayors of neighbouring districts had been initiated. She noted that District VI had banned short-term rentals from January, following a referendum, and a number of other districts had weighed similar measures.
She said that rental fees in District VI had edged down 1pc in January from the same month a year earlier as the number of long-term rentals climbed 28pc, while rents in District I had risen 4pc.
Rising real estate prices in Buda’s Castle District
Real estate portal ingatlan.com found that in January 2026 the median monthly rent for second-hand flats in District I reached HUF 300,000 (EUR 784), 4% higher than a year earlier.
Meanwhile, the median price per square metre of second-hand flats for sale in the Castle District was up by 15%, reaching approx. HUF 1.9 million (EUR 4,966).
