Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi signed a memorandum of understanding in Budapest on the governments’ active support for the establishment of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Maritime Silk Road. The projects are being financed by the Silk Road Fund, which has already been capitalised with some 40 billion dollars from Beijing.

The EP debate centred on two issues: the Hungarian government’s standpoints on migration and the death penalty. The tax office NAV has clamped down on a crime organisation suspected of a 3 billion forint (EUR 9.8m) fraud from reclaiming valueadded- tax (VAT) based in Debrecen, in eastern Hungary, NAV’s local office said. The investigation was closed on May 11 after a full year of gathering evidence, head of NAV’s regional office Tibor Lengyel said.
