Hungary Outlaws Lab-Grown Meat
The government has imposed a blanket ban on the production and sale of laboratory-grown meat, according to a decree published.

The cabinet argues that current scientific evidence does not offer sufficiently clear assurances on public health or food safety risks, prompting legislators to opt for a full prohibition.

The law defines “laboratory meat” as products derived from animal cells or tissues grown outside a living organism under artificial conditions.

Both production and commercial distribution are barred, including foodstuffs that use such material as an ingredient.

Only medical and veterinary applications are exempt.
