The distribution of fake cosmetics, clothes, shoes, records, alcoholic beverages and medications cause annual losses of an estimated 207 billion forints (691.5m euros) to the Hungarian economy, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) reported. EUIPO said that the amount accounted for 12.2% of the total revenue of those sectors.

Tax dodging in the food retail industry costs the state Ft 130 billion in lost taxes every year, according to a study by Ernst & Young. The most common method of evading taxes is the practice of “fake exporting,” said Ernst & Young tax expert Tamás Vékási. In such schemes, the products leave Hungary only on paper, as VAT does not have to be paid in Hungary on products exported within the EU.

2014 Update: It was closed down. Hungary is not the most multicultural nation on the planet. 95% Magyar, 2% Roma, and the rest of us. Around 100,000 Chinese live in Hungary, and Budapest has its own Chinatown, well, a sprawling China-shanty-town. It's a real oddity, and if not the most immediate of local attractions, it is a side of the city that's bafflingly interesting, in a grimy kind of way. ...
