2015 brought many changes to Hungary’s social welfare system. From March 2015 needy families now receive far less social assistance than before. A number of programs were eliminated. In their place, local governments can offer so-called “settlement assistance”, but who receives how much is now entirely left up to the local governments.

The fifth Diplomatic Fair, organized by the Diplomatic Spouses of Budapest and the InterContinental Budapest promises to be a great extravaganza as previous years. This year, 40 embassies will be participating by exhibiting their country’s character in specialties and souvenirs, and nearly 26 countries are offering their nation’s food and drink in the refreshment area

Patrick McMenamin and Zsuzsa Bozo, owners of the Caledonia Pub in Budapest, contacted XpatLoop.com about promoting their new 'Refugee Aid' project saying, "We are delighted to announce that The Robert Burns International Foundation here in Budapest have agreed to support our efforts to raise much needed funds by providing us with a bank account to accept donations specifically for this cause."

The Hungarian-born American art collector Imre Pákh told MTI he will not take measures to remove Mihály Munkácsy’s monumental painting “Golgotha” from a Debrecen gallery until the end of the summer. Earlier, Pákh said the painting would be removed from the Déri Museum on June 25, after talks on its sale to the state of Hungary reached an impasse.

Capa in Color presents the color work of the world-renowned Hungarian-born photographer taken between 1938 and 1954. The show was first exhibited in New York last year. This is the first time that the Capa Center cooperates with the International Center of Photography (ICP), one of the most distinguished photography institutions of the world.
