You Can Help Migrants Via Expat Pub's 'Refugee Aid Caledonia'
Patrick McMenamin and Zsuzsa Bozo, owners of the Caledonia Pub in Budapest, contacted XpatLoop.com about promoting their new 'Refugee Aid' project saying, "We are delighted to announce that The Robert Burns International Foundation here in Budapest have agreed to support our efforts to raise much needed funds by providing us with a bank account to accept donations specifically for this cause."

The RBIF has raised significant amounts over the past 15 years to support the work of children's hospitals, and other projects in Hungary, via the combined support of many expats and locals.

The Caledonia Pub's efforts to help during the Hungarian refugee crisis continues. Over the last couple of weeks this small but popular pub has played an important role as a donation center:

Organising the collection of needed items, helping to manage hundreds of volunteers, coordinating transportation between collection points and refugee camps, furnishing an emergency shelter place for children, and cooking meals for up to 1200 people as the crisis reached a peak. See the video above for an example of the pub's related work.

Zsuzsa continued, "We did this because we believe no children should be left hungry or left on the streets to sleep, no matter what nationality they are. We still need donations, but as the crisis evolves so have our plans - and right now we need your help more than ever.

Already, hundreds of volunteers and individuals concerned with the plight of the refugees have donated food, clothes, blankets, sleeping bags and other items to help those in need. But there is still so much we need to do and many essential items we need to purchase and put to good use. We are hoping to set up mobile "Aid Points", so we can organize donations where needed, provide short term shelters anywhere.

Every single donation will help us help those in desperate need. Not a single forint will be used to cover staffing costs or other overheads. We already have an experienced bookeeper who has volunteered to keep track of the funds and report on how the funds are used. Please donate what you can, it will go a very long way. Please add the message 'Refugee Aid Caledonia ' to your bank transfer."
