The Farsang ('Carnival' in English) season is upon us in Hungary, and throughout Europe in Christian countries, starting with the feast of the Epiphany on January 6th. Local tradition says if it snows on 6 January, Spring will come early, and if it rains then Spring will be rainy.

This is the period to eat, drink and be merry before Lent, as Lent is the period of fasting and abstinence which begins on Ash Wednesday.
