Budapest’s municipal assembly on Wednesday voted to donate a bust of Hungarian-born composer and pianist Franz Liszt to Buenos Aires. City councillors voted unanimously to task the Budapest History Museum with casting the bust and shipping it to the Argentine capital.

The first Hungarian translation of various sections of the Talmud was presented in Budapest on Wednesday. Published by the Unified Hungarian Jewish Congregation (EMIH), the edition contains the Hungarian translation of 19 chapters of the Talmud in two volumes containing the original texts in Hebrew and Aramaic with explanatory notes.

For the first time in several decades, Hungarian works of art, ones by Tibor Hajas and Attila Csörgő, will feature at the central exhibition of the Venice Biennale, starting on May 13, organisers told a press briefing on Tuesday. The Hungarian pavilion will host the work of Gyula Várnai, curated by Zsolt Petrányi, titled “Peace on Earth!”, state secretary for culture Péter Hoppál said.

Close to 400 programmes will be organised by Hungary in 2017 to mark the 500th anniversary of Reformation in Europe. The series of events opened in Budapest’s Palace of Arts (Müpa) on January 6. Throughout 2017 a variety of performances are planned, such as a rock version of Handel’s oratorio Messiah.
