In the evening of 20 August, the day that marks the anniversary of the foundation of the Hungarian State, more than half a million people watched the ceremonial fireworks display held on the Danube Banks. The ceremonial events attracted much attention and were held in high spirits; thousands of tourists were able to share the festive atmosphere of one of Hungary’s greatest national holidays.

With eight gold, four silver and five bronze medals, Hungary took 9th place in the final official medals table for the 2012 London Olympics. This is the first time since the 1992 Barcelona Olympics that Hungary has come in the top ten. Taking population size into account, Hungary was the most successful nation in Europe. "At weekends and on public holidays a veteran bus is operated between Szell Kalman ter (Moszkva ter) and Huvosvolgy once in the morning and once in the afternoon until 28th October 2012. It is going to depart Szell Kalman ter at 9:30 and 15:30 hrs, and Huvosvolgy at 10:10 and 16:10 hrs.
