Parliament on Tuesday passed a law amendment setting the rate of advertisement tax at 7.5 percent from the second half of 2017. The levy will apply to companies with revenue exceeding a net amount of 100 million forints (EUR 320,000) from July 1, 2017. The bill submitted by the economy minister was passed with 117 votes in favour and 58 against.

Advertising tax in Hungary is set to be raised from the current 5.3% to 9% as of June, for taxpayers with revenue exceeding HUF 100 million, according to a proposed amendment submitted by Minister for National Economy Mihály Varga, Hungarian wire service MTI reported today. Freedom House (FH) has ranked Hungary as a “free” democracy in its 2016 global report released on Wednesday. The human rights watchdog called populists and autocrats “the dual threat” to global democracy. The report for last year evaluated the state of freedom in 195 countries and 14 territories.
