The World Jewish Congress began its three-day meeting in Budapest on 3 May with nearly 500 delegates from all over the world. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán delivered his opening speech in front of the 14th General Assembly and stated that the Hungarian Government considers it its moral obligation to promote "zero tolerance" against anti-Semitism.

The celebrations will begin on August 19 when the 'Street of Hungarian Flavours' will open at noon between the Buda side of the Erzsébet híd and Bem tér. Awards will be presented for Hungary’s best cake, sugar-free cake and ice cream. Pop music will play on Clark Ádám tér and on Bem tér from 8pm. By Kathy Megyeri: In 2007, my husband was awarded the Gold Cross of Merit of the Republic of Hungary for his outstanding actions during the 1956 Revolution, his promotion of Hungary's membership to NATO, and his achievements among Hungarian Americans. He proudly wore his medal each day to signal his pride as a Hungarian-American.

"More than 700 buildings normally closed to the public, in 270 municipalities, will be open to visitors this coming Saturday and Sunday to mark Cultural Heritage Days it was announced this week. One of the prominent sights will be the presidential palace in Buda Castle, along with the National Bank, several embassies, and the Patent Office.
