Budapest Airport: Terminal 1 Converted Into An Event Center

Terminal 1 at Budapest Airport has reopened, four months after its closure, after an event center has been established in the empty passenger terminal. As previously envisaged, Budapest Airport decided to maintain the condition of the valuable building, which will thus be put to use once again. The Terminal 1 Airport Event Center will host corporate and private events as of 1 October.

With events like Samhainfest it is practically impossible to complain about the metal scene in Budapest. While assembling nine bands, Samhainfest brought together fans from all over Hungary, but the neighboring countries, too. The festival also meant one of the biggest gatherings of Hungarian folk metal bands, since more than half of them don't usually reside in Budapest.

2014 Update: It was closed down. Hungary is not the most multicultural nation on the planet. 95% Magyar, 2% Roma, and the rest of us. Around 100,000 Chinese live in Hungary, and Budapest has its own Chinatown, well, a sprawling China-shanty-town. It's a real oddity, and if not the most immediate of local attractions, it is a side of the city that's bafflingly interesting, in a grimy kind of way. ...

The US organization, Claims Conference, appointed in 2007 to disburse funds to holocaust survivors of Hungarian origin living abroad, has to date failed to render a legitimate account of the compensation funds that the Hungarian State provided for holocaust survivors, Government Commissioner András Levente Gál informed the US and Israeli Embassies today.
