Retail sales in Hungary climbed by 5.7 percent in June from the same month a year earlier, preliminary data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) on Wednesday show. Retail sales also rose by 5.7 percent year on year when adjusted for calendar year effects. The pace slowed from an unadjusted 6.8 percent and was unchanged from a calendar-year-adjusted 5.7 percent rise in May.

Retail sales in Hungary went up by an annual 6.8% in May, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said, confirming data published in a first reading earlier. Retail sales rose by an annual 5.7% when adjusted for calendar year effects. The pace accelerated from an unadjusted 5.0% and slowed from a calendar year-adjusted 6.7% rise in April.

The average gross wage in Hungary was 264,471 forints (EUR 845) in April, up by 6.4% from the same month a year earlier, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said. Net wage growth outpaced the increase, rising by 8.0% to 175,874 forints, because of a one percentage point cut in the personal income tax rate, to 15%, from January.

Lawmakers approved amendments to the 2016 budget act raising both revenue and expenditures by 421.7 billion forints (EUR 1.4bn). The amendments were passed with 121 votes in favour and 63 against. The MPs raised the revenue target from 15,800.4 billion forints to 16,222.1 billion forints. They increased the expenditure target from 16,562.0 billion forints to 16,983.7 billion forints.
