Surveys estimate that there are between 40 and 80 million digital nomads worldwide. An analysis by the Oeconomus Economic Research Foundation shows that there are several advantages at the national economic level when digital nomads choose a country as their place of work, primarily through tourism and consumption.
Digital nomadism is becoming increasingly popular in Hungary among both foreign and Hungarian workers.
Based on the 2025 Digital Nomad Index compiled by VisaGuide, Hungary is the fifth best country in the world for digital nomads, behind Spain, the United Arab Emirates, Montenegro, and the Bahamas.
Hungary stands out for its low cost of living, stable internet connection, low income requirement (2,000 EUR) for a digital nomad visa (known as a white card), and favorable tax conditions.
A digital nomad is someone who works online from anywhere in the world instead of staying in one fixed office or city. They might be programmers, writers, designers, marketers, consultants, teachers, or do many other kinds of remote jobs.
What makes them special is that they often live for weeks or months in different countries, combining work with travel.
