Retail Sales Rise Again in Hungary

Retail sales rose 3.0pc when adjusted for calendar year effects.
Adjusted food sales climbed 3.1pc, non-food sales rose 3.5pc and vehicle fuel sales edged up 0.6pc.
Online and mail-order sales volume, which accounted for 9.0pc of retail turnover, rose 9.5pc.
In a month-on-month comparison, retail sales were unchanged, adjusted for seasonal and calendar year effects.
In absolute terms, retail sales came to HUF 1,661bn in September. Food sales accounted for 49pc of the total, non-food sales for 36pc and sales at petrol stations for 15pc.
For the period January-September, retail sales rose an adjusted 2.8pc and an unadjusted 2.5pc from the same period a year earlier. Food sales increased an adjusted 2.7pc, non-food sales 4.2pc and motor fuel sales 0.7pc.
Commenting on the data, the National Economy Ministry said the government was committed to further strengthening the financial security of families and pensioners, citing personal income tax cuts for families raising children and the extension of mandatory caps on markups for a range of food and non-food products until the end of February and their extension over additional products.
The ministry said the government would take steps against "unjustified price increases" in all cases and initiated voluntary price restrictions by banks, insurers, telecommunications and pharmaceutical companies, it added.
