Now On: Ten-Day Jewish Summer Festival In Budapest

Last Sunday saw the start of the 15th Jewish Summer Festival – one of Budapest’s most 'prestigious annual programmes of cultural events'. Every year the festival attracts tens of thousands of local visitors and tourists to the capital and its synagogue, which is said to be one of Europe’s most beautiful. The Hungarian Government has also provided funding for this programme of cultural events.

The festival was established in 2004 by a group of young Hungarian filmmakers in order to fill a gap in the category of short film, but over the years it became clear that it was about much more. The international breakthrough came rapidly on the 3rd festival in 2007 when shorts were screened from 45 countries.

On Monday morning the 20th Sziget Festival officially ended. Glastonbury’s founder, Michael Eavis was amongst the 379 thousand visitors, generously praising Sziget for being even more colourful than his own event.
