Fungarian: The Hungarian Cinema

In most languages the word for cinema is something similar to the French term cinématographe, originally coined by the Lumière brothers in the 1890s, who borrowed it from the Greek κίνημα (kínēma, “movement”) adding the French suffix -graphe. Not in Hungarian.

Last weekend we ventured out into the north-east region of Hungary and visited the beautiful city of Eger. The City of Eger is over a thousand years old, with its glorious historical past, valuable historical building complexes, wines and curative waters is one of the most famous cities of Hungary. It was a bishop's seat as early as during the reign of our first king, Szent István.

The Fekete-Körös Valley is situated to the south-east of Nagyvárad (Oradea, Romania) between the Apuseni Mountains (Munţii Apuseni) in Romania and the Great Hungarian Plain. The region was settled by Hungarians – with a focus on its fertile plateau – during the time of the Árpád Dynasty, while the first historical references to Romanian villages date to the end of the 16th century.

On 11 June 2013, Budapest Mayor István Tarlós ordered BKK, Municipal Disaster Management, Budapest Sewage Works, Budapest Transport Company BKV and the Budapest Police to jointly assess the situation at Batthyány tér and decide on how to alleviate the traffic restrictions affecting Budapest residents in line with the receding water levels of the Danube.
