State-owned railway company MÁV could integrate the HÉV suburban railway lines into its own network, daily Magyar Idők said, citing unnamed government sources. The government recently announced that MÁV would take over the HÉV lines from the city of Budapest with retroactive effect from the start of this year.

Snowfall caused disruptions throughout Hungary on Monday. Road accidents were many and trains were delayed, though no flight cancellations were reported from Budapest’s international Liszt Ferenc airport. Runways at the airport are being continually cleared of snow and only minor departure delays are expected due to time taken to defrost aircraft, Budapest Airport spokesman Mihály Hardy said.
