The local council of Óbuda, Budapest’s Third District, approved a “kitsch tax” on newly built homes at its meeting on Thursday. The number of permits issued for new home construction in Hungary saw a year-on.year rise of 39.2%, reaching 5,581, in the first half of this year, while new permits were issued for a total area of 614,600 sqm, up 36%, a report by Hungary’s Central Statistical Office revealed today.
