City Council Cuts Budapest Festival Orchestra Funding By HUF 200 M

The Budapest general assembly voted to cut funding for the internationally celebrated Budapest Festival Orchestra from last year’s 260 million forints (EUR 840,000) to 60 million forints. Budapest Deputy Mayor Alexandra Szalay- Bobrovniczky said in the debate on the orchestra’s funding that it receives a significant amount of state support alongside the money it gets from the city.

The radical nationalist Jobbik party has proposed electing Hungary’s president by a direct vote and has invited the other four parliamentary parties to discuss the idea. A while back Medián conducted a survey on anti-Semitism in Hungary. It just made its findings public. The document is almost forty pages long, full of tables and graphs, and defies being summarized in a few paragraphs.
