The government is ready to face European Commission probes into Hungary’s supermarket oversight fee and health-care contribution payable by tobacco companies, government office chief János Lázár said. Hungary has a need for cooperation with the United Nation’s refugee agency (UNHCR) in this “crisis situation”, a government official told public news channel M1. István Mikola, state secretary for security policy and international cooperation, commented on the UN agency’s decision to expand its Budapest service centre for the High Commissioner for Refugees.

Pharmaceutical company Béres Gyógyszergyár has began a Ft 3.2 billion capacity expansion investment at its plant in Szolnok. Half of the costs, Ft 1.6 billion, will be covered by the state, Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Péter Szijjártó announced. Béres will increase its production area to 1,600m2 and its warehouse storage space by 400m2, in addition to installing new technology in the plant.

Police have launched a legal procedure against a shop assistant in central Budapest who used a homemade card reader to steal bank-card data as customers were paying for their purchases, the Budapest police force said. The 24-year-old man then used the data to make online purchases on 18 occasions in February and March this year, the BRFK said on its website.
