In 2025, Hungary was once again ranked at the bottom of the European Union, sharing last place with Bulgaria this time, according to the annual Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) compiled by the Secretariat of Transparency International in Berlin.
Ukraine is currently Hungary's enemy as it is trying to undermine the country's secure operations, energy security and sovereignty, Péter Szijjártó, the minister of foreign affairs and trade, said on Tuesday, adding that the government would not allow the country's secure operations to be put at risk.
Charges have been filed for organising an illegal assembly in connection with the 2025 Pécs Pride march, according to the Pécs District Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutors have proposed a fine against the organiser after the event went ahead despite an official police ban and a Supreme Court ruling upholding that decision.
The Prosecutor's Office of Budapest's fifth and eight districts has charged Gergely Karácsony, the mayor of Budapest, with "organising and leading a meeting called Budapest Pride despite a police ban" last summer, the office said in statement.
