Expat Event: Australian Film Club, Muszi Budapest, 19 September

This will be the 50th event of the local Australian Film Club since it began in 2010. During this time they've showed several Aussie classics and lesser-known "cult" movies, and managed to forge a dedicated group of fans, including many people who have tangible ties to Australia.

I think the one thing most expats miss in Hungary is the sea, and perhaps not only the expats. Driving into the country the other day I saw on the one billboard blank of ads and propaganda someone had written: Now that we have a Mediterranean climate couldn’t we have a sea as well?

The 58th World Press Photo contest winners were selected from 97,912 photos shot by 5,692 photographers from 131 different countries. This visiting exhibition makes 100 stops every year, making the World Press Photo tour of prize-winning pics the most popular traveling photo event in the world. So it's well worth catching while in Budapest.

Foreign Minister Rejects International Criticism On Hungary’s Handling Of Migrants

Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó called Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta’s remarks on Hungary’s handling of migrants as “plain lies”, adding they were unsuitable for a 21st century leader. Szijjártó said the Romanian premier’s “extremist and mendacious remarks” was down to Romania’s domestic political crisis and the faltering of Ponta’s position. Hungary expects an apology, he added.
