A top tourism official has issued reassurances that Hungary remains safe and that local authorities can guarantee the security of all tourists who arrive in the country. Only 11% of Hungarians are not planning to go on vacation at all this summer, CIB Bank said, based on its representative survey. More than half of Hungarians want to go on a vacation that lasts at least 5 days, the survey showed. Around 35% are planning to go on one big vacation, and 17% are planning two or more bigger trips.

The Spanish carrier Iberia has launched its direct Madrid-Budapest flight on Tuesday morning, with the first flight’s 95 passengers being greeted at the airport by Hungary’s ambassador to the Spanish capital. The new flight will operate between 2 June until the end of October twice a week, with two flights serving the route on Tuesdays and Thursdays but none on Mondays and Fridays.
