Drug Use Can Be Prevented And Addiction Is Treatable Says Hungarian Minister

Drug use can be prevented and addiction is treatable, this is the encouraging message of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, State Minister for Social Affairs and Inclusion Károly Czibere said on Thursday in Budapest. He was speaking on the occasion of handing out ministerial awards to specialists with a long track record of fighting against drugs.

Ticks are small spider-like insects that feed by inserting their mouths into the skin of a host and slowly taking in blood. During the feeding process they can transmit infections through their saliva. The tick´s saliva also has a numbing effect and so the bite can go unnoticed. In Central Europe the two most common diseases transmitted by ticks are Tick-borne encephalitis and Lyme Disease.

Hungary is launching a 12 billion forint (EUR 39m) national brain research programme to promote research, prevention, innovation, health-care and drug development. The related agreement was signed on Wednesday by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Academy of Sciences (MTA) President József Pálinkás and the project’s director, Tamás Freund, head of MTA’s Institute of Experimental Medicine.
