Civil rights ombudsman Máté Szabó will not turn to the Constitutional Court over the question of tobacco retail licences, his office announced in a weekend statement. His office said the transformation of the tobacco retail trade into a state monopoly is a justifiable restriction on trade, as protection of minors against the health hazards of smoking is a legitimate constitutional interest.

I simply can’t understand the Hungarian opposition’s lack of initiative and its sluggish reactions to unacceptable actions that are being taken day in and day out by Fidesz and the Fidesz-ruled parliament. Often, opposition politicians wake up only when a government official reveals by a slip of the tongue the real intention of a piece of legislation.
