Campaign For Hungary’s Local Elections Starts
The campaign for Hungary’s local elections started officially on Saturday. Hungarian President János Áder has set October 12 as the date of the local elections, when Hungary’s national and ethnic minorities will also elect local representatives. The official campaign for the local elections starts on the 50th day prior to the date of the election under the election procedures law.

Candidates can start collecting supporting signatures by voters from Monday till September 8. Under the new law, election rallies can be last held on the day preceding the day of the vote, but campaigning will be banned within a 150-metre radius of polling stations on the voting day.

In election campaign events held on Sunday, Fidesz promised economic stimulus and jobs and a chance to “put the Gyurcsány-Bajnai era behind us”, while E-PM vowed to make the first moves to erode the Orbán regime by building “bridgeheads” in Budapest.

At the same time, allied LMP and 4K! proposed the launch of a major social housing project involving 10,000 rentals to ease the housing needs of low-income earners and the homeless.
